Silverstein Albuquerque Concert reviews
A little disappointed
Let me start by saying that to me, Silverstein is a legend in the R&B genre and I was thrilled to attend her concert. I enjoy witnessing artists perform and reveling in their skills. There is a certain magic in singing along with an iconic figure.
My major letdown was this... Silverstein performed numerous tracks, including some of her popular hits. However, on many occasions, Silverstein did not actually sing. For instance, during 'I'm going down', Silverstein simply pointed the microphone to the crowd for each refrain without singing it herself even once. This tactic was repeated for about 75% of her setlist. Additionally, there were segments where it was evident that her backup singers or prerecorded vocals were taking the lead. I did not purchase a ticket to listen to a group of amateur singers (the audience). I paid to witness her....LIVE....SING!!!
The stage production lacked depth.... just Silverstein singing. No choreography, no elaborate stage setup, nothing. While there was a screen present, it was mostly obstructed by unused equipment rendering it practically useless. In my opinion, if there is no elaborate stage production or choreography, then the emphasis should be on the singing and it should be delivered.... wholeheartedly. I would have been content if she had simply sat there and poured her heart out... no frills needed.
I must acknowledge that Silverstein emanated a great deal of emotion during the performance. She seemed extremely passionate about her ex and she expressed this sentiment throughout the entire show. It was commendable to witness such raw emotion that was undeniably tied to the setlist but ultimately, I yearned to hear her sing.
In conclusion, I am slightly disheartened but still a staunch admirer of Silverstein.
